Joshua Wasylciw

After high school, Joshua moved to Edmonton and attended the University of Alberta where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science. Following completion of his undergraduate degree, Joshua moved to Calgary where he obtained his juris doctor from the University of Calgary. Before commencing his formal articles, Joshua spent two years with the Federal Court of Appeal, Courts Martial Appeals Court, the Federal Court, and the Tax Court of Canada as a clerk. Following articles, Joshua has practiced almost exclusively in the area of family law however he maintains a regular practice in wills and estates law as well (including probate). Joshua also enjoys doing pro bono work for not for profit and charitable organizations.

To date, Joshua has performed the legal work required to establish the following not-for-profit societies and charities registered with the CRA:

1. Unmasking the Reality of Lung Cancer Society – a charity to raise funds for lung cancer research that has raised over $100,000.00 for research.

2. DIY Theatre Society – a performing arts charity designed to provide new and emerging artists opportunities to perform in theatrical productions.

3. Reflective Theatre YYC Society (operating as Misfit Theatre) - a performing arts society to provide provide new and emerging artists opportunities to perform in theatrical productions. Charitable status is currently being sought.

4. Gage Holy Trinity Cemetery Society – a not-for-profit society designed to take over the ownership, care, and operation of a cemetery long legally still owned by a long defunct church in a rural area of Alberta.

5. Support All First Responders Everyday Society – a not-for-profit society established to raise funds to support first responders who are struggling with the negative impacts of the exposure to trauma as part of their role as first responders.

6. Calgary Basset Rescue Society – a not-for-profit society established as an animal rescue with a specific focus on basset hounds.

Joshua also sits on the boards of Unmasking the Reality of Lung Cancer Society and the Alberta Family Lawyers Association (AFLA) and has been a volunteer with Calgary Legal Guidance for over 15 years.

Joshua also enjoys publishing articles in peer reviewed academic journals on a variety of topics including many scholarly articles on different topics in international relations and international law.

In his spare time, Joshua loves to travel, having been to over 25 different countries. He enjoys travelling to places that are not common for Canadian’s to visit and his adventures have included spending a day exploring the ruins of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in northern Ukraine, spending five days sailing from the north coast of Columbia to Panama, climbing to the top of Mount Sainai in Egypt and hiking to the ruins of Petra in the Kingdom of Jordan. Most recently Joshua, his fiancé, and their daughter spent a week in Malta.
